Inside the Design: A Luxe, Sensory Soiree at The Charter Oak in Napa

Few things excite me more than a creative collaboration with a talented planner. When Harlene of Harlene Events asked me to design florals for her end-of-year celebration at The Charter Oak in Napa, I knew it would be something special. It was a chance to celebrate the Bay Area and Northern California’s incredible wedding and event community with a design that was immersive, textural, and anything but expected.

Here’s how it all came to life.

guide: my favorite venues

The Vibe

A night of revelry and sensorial sophistication. Think: vibey lighting, rich velvet upholstery, silky draping and tassels, funky candles, and florals that merged classic elegance with modern restraint. The result was layered, textural, and full of movement — a celebration of abundance and artistry. (This would make gooood inspiration for a winter wedding or holiday party in the Bay Area!)

The Palette

Inspired by the 2025 Pantone Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse, the palette explored shades of bronze, aubergine, brown, and silver — creating depth and dimension through texture. Because the design centered around a single color, we leaned heavily on interplay between finishes, fabrics, and light to avoid flatness and evoke warmth. The Table Setting

The tablescape was designed to indulge all the senses — rich, tactile, and overflowing with detail.

Key elements included:

The Florals

Given the abundance of the tablescape, I opted for mono- and duo-botanical floral designs — arrangements featuring one or two flower varieties. This style of arrangements has gained tons of traction (for wedding design especially) for their simplicity and elegance.

Some standout ingredients included:

  • Classic blooms, including tulips, callas, hyacinth, and anemones, in shades of white and aubergine

  • Scattered loose gardenia blooms for a subtle, fragrant layer

  • Petite floral accents, plantscapes, and fruitscapes

  • A striking hanging installation of black calla lilies suspended near the main bar

The Table Objects

In my opinion, floral artistry doesn’t stop at flowers. Table objects are essential to building mood and elevating design.

Highlights included:

  • Fringe table lamps for a loungey glow

  • Sculptural, modern, and plentiful candles

  • Curated vessels in silvers and richly tinted glassware, both vintage and modern (explore my Wedding Design Trend Spotlight: The Silver Edit post here)

  • Vegetative accents of plants, grapes, pears, and radicchio for organic texture

The Guest Experience

Beyond the table design, Harlene Events curated an unforgettable guest experience, featuring:

We ended the evening gathered around The Charter Oak’s patio fire pit — reflecting on the season, sharing intentions for the year ahead, and celebrating the creative community that makes this work so very rewarding. A night to remember indeed!
